Why is roof surveying the bottleneck in PV planning?
Roof surveying is the bottleneck because most companies perform it manually on-site – an employee drives to the customer, measures the roof with a tape measure or laser, and then transfers the dimensions into design software. For complex roof shapes (dormers, chimneys, skylights), this takes several hours per building. Every inaccurate measurement propagates throughout the entire planning process: incorrect module areas, unrealistic yield forecasts, and rework on the construction site.
The alternative – a professional drone flight with external analysis – only partially solves the problem. With most providers, the analysis takes 24 hours, costs separately per model, and delivers a result that must be manually imported into the design software. Thus, surveying remains the bottleneck: a time-consuming choke point between customer contact and proposal generation.

No. autarc offers various options for planning photovoltaic systems. For example, you can plan using DOP20 orthophotos, Google orthophotos, or satellite images. Alternatively, you can take 25 to 75 photos yourself with a standard drone. If you use drone footage, the finished 3D roof model will be available in the software in approximately 15 minutes.
How accurate is the 3D roof model from photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry achieves an accuracy of 1 to 3 centimeters. The prerequisite is 25 to 75 drone photos – the more images, the more detailed the 3D model. Processing takes 15 minutes. Roof areas, pitch angles, and obstacles such as chimneys or skylights are recorded with centimeter precision. The Premium plan includes an unlimited number of photogrammetry models.
Can autarc perform string planning automatically?
autarc's string planning automatically distributes modules to strings and MPP trackers. All technical parameters – voltage windows, current limits, cable lengths – are checked in real time. The result is a standard-compliant string configuration without manual calculation.
How does autarc's shading analysis work?
autarc calculates shading based on the real 3D roof model – not based on estimates or flat-rate deductions. The software simulates the shadow progression throughout the year and outputs the yield loss at module and string level.
Can autarc simulate PV systems with a wallbox and storage together?
The system simulation calculates annual yield, self-consumption, and amortization for PV systems – including battery storage and wallbox if required. Over 250 wallbox models and 900 e-car profiles are available in the database. PV surplus charging is automatically simulated.
Which roof types can autarc process for PV planning?
autarc supports all common roof types: gable roof, hip roof, shed roof, flat roof, and special forms with dormers, offsets, and skylights. The 3D model is created individually from drone photos – regardless of complexity.
