Smart energy management: Order meters and HEMS from our partners
autarc's smart energy management bundles the ordering, meter exchange and installation of smart meters, HEMS and dynamic electricity tariffs into a single process. You select what your customer needs in the quote, and the autarc partner network takes care of the rest.

How does the smart meter service work with autarc?
You enter the details of the existing meter and select what your customer needs: a smart meter, HEMS and/or a dynamic electricity tariff. autarc transmits the order to the installation partner network, which handles appointment scheduling, the meter exchange and any further installation work with the end customer.
- Record meter data: You enter the details of your customer's existing electricity meter directly into autarc.
- Select requirements: You choose what you would like to order: smart meter, HEMS and/or a dynamic electricity tariff.
- Coordinate installation: The autarc partner network handles the meter exchange and schedules appointments directly with the end customer.
- Activate control: The smart meter provides consumption data immediately. If a HEMS has also been ordered, it automatically manages the photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat pump and wallbox – optimised for generation and electricity prices.
What features are included?
Benefits of smart meter planning with autarc
- No need for your own electrician: The certified partner network handles the entire meter replacement process and scheduling with the end customer.
- Compliance met: Since 1 January 2025, smart meter installation has been mandatory for households with an annual consumption of 6,000 kWh or more, PV systems over 7 kW, and controllable loads over 4.2 kW.
- Smart solutions instead of individual units: HEMS optimally connects PV systems, storage, and heat pumps.
- New business area: With frequent use, you can obtain your own certification as an installer via SpotmyEnergy.
- No separate tool: Ordering is integrated into the familiar autarc quotation process, requiring no additional time.
- Scheduled appointments: The partner network coordinates meter replacement and installation directly with the end customer, without requiring any input from your business.

What is a smart meter and when is it mandatory?
A smart meter records electricity consumption digitally and transmits it securely via a gateway. As of 1 January 2025, installation is mandatory for households with an annual consumption of 6,000 kWh or more, PV systems over 7 kW, and controllable loads over 4.2 kW (e.g. heat pumps, wallboxes, battery storage). The phased rollout aims for a 20% coverage rate for mandatory cases by the end of 2025, rising to 90% by the end of 2032. Responsibility lies with the metering point operator, the local grid operator, or a competitive provider such as SpotmyEnergy.
What is a Home Energy Management System (HEMS)?
A HEMS automatically controls the energy flow between a PV system, storage, heat pump, and wallbox based on solar generation or low electricity prices. This increases self-consumption and reduces grid dependency. It can be booked as an optional extra with a smart meter, but requires an intelligent metering system.
What role does the dynamic electricity tariff play?
Since 1 January 2025, electricity suppliers have been required to offer customers with smart meters dynamic tariffs based on hourly wholesale prices. A HEMS automatically shifts the operation of heat pumps, wallboxes, or storage systems to cheaper times, thereby reducing electricity costs. The tariff only requires a smart meter and can be booked independently of a HEMS.
What are the requirements for installation and grid connection?
Since 1 January 2024, new heat pumps, wallboxes, and storage systems over 4.2 kW are classified as controllable loads under Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). In exchange for reduced grid charges, the grid operator can throttle them during periods of congestion; the smart meter forms the basis for this. The equipment registration is handled by the autarc grid connection service, independently of the smart meter service.
Smart Meter Service FAQs
What is autarc Smart Energy Control?
Smart Energy Control is the autarc ordering process for smart meters, HEMS, and dynamic electricity tariffs. You enter the meter data and select the requirements, and the autarc partner network handles the meter exchange and installation.
How much does Smart Energy Control cost?
For autarc customers, there is a one-off installation fee of €99 net. You are free to invoice this to your end customer. The metering point operation costs the end customer €100 gross per year and is billed directly to them. Optionally, a dynamic electricity tariff can be booked for €8.99 gross per month, plus the variable wholesale electricity price. This is also billed directly to the end customer.
Smart Energy Control or grid connection: what is the difference?
Smart Energy Control orders and installs the smart electricity meter itself, as well as the optional HEMS and dynamic tariff. The grid connection service registers the associated equipment—such as heat pumps, PV systems, or wallboxes—with the grid operator. Both services can be used independently of each other.
Does my business need to hire its own electrician for the meter exchange?
No, the certified installation network of our partner SpotmyEnergy handles the meter exchange and coordinates appointments directly with the end customer.
What are the benefits of a HEMS in addition to a smart meter?
The HEMS links your photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat pump, and wallbox into a single integrated system, automatically shifting consumption to periods when energy is cheap or solar generation is high. A smart meter on its own only measures consumption without controlling it.
Can I order smart meters, HEMS, and dynamic tariffs individually?
Yes, the three components can be combined independently of one another, from a simple meter exchange to full energy management.
Can my business get certified as a smart meter installer?
Yes, businesses that use the service frequently can get certified via our partner SpotmyEnergy and install smart meters themselves in the future.
