What funding is available for heat pumps in single-family homes?
_Main.webp)
Heat pumps are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional heating systems and are particularly attractive for single-family homes. With the right funding, high acquisition costs can be significantly reduced. Find out here which funding programs exist, which requirements must be met and how to obtain the maximum funding for your single-family home.
What funding is available for heat pumps in single-family homes?
Owners of a single-family house are entitled to KfW subsidy No. 458 and the KfW Loan No. 358, 359 available as funding options for heat pumps. The following table shows the most important details:
KfW subsidy No. 458
The KfW subsidy No. 458 supports owners of single-family homes in switching to climate-friendly heating systems. Funding is provided, among other things, for the purchase and installation of electrically powered heat pumps. The funding covers up to 70% of the costs. A maximum of 30,000 euros are eligible for funding, meaning that you will receive a maximum of 21,000 euros.
The requirements are that the residential building is at least five years old at the time the application is submitted and that the installation of the new heating system is combined with an optimization of the entire heating distribution system. Private individuals who own existing and self-occupied or rented single-family homes in Germany are eligible to apply.
KfW Loan No. 358, 359
The KfW Supplementary Loan No. 358 and 359 offers owners of single-family homes the opportunity to finance energy renovation measures that have already been subsidized, such as the installation of heat pumps, through low-interest loans. With a loan amount of up to 120,000€ per residential unit, up to 100% of the eligible costs can be covered.
The following conditions are available to you:
The loan is only available in combination with previously approved grant funding from KfW or the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) in accordance with the “Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings — Individual Measures” (BEG EM) guideline. For private individuals with an annual household income of up to 90,000€, the Supplementary Credit Plus (No. 358) offers an additional interest rate advantage.
Which requirements must be met?
For heat pumps to be eligible for funding, certain requirements must be met. These apply to both existing buildings and new buildings and include various aspects such as efficiency, technology and installation.
Requirements for existing buildings
- Measuring devices: A heat meter is required. Electric heat pumps also require an electricity meter, and gas-powered heat pumps require a gas meter.
- Minimum annual work rate:
- brine/water and water/water heat pumps: 3.8 (residential buildings), 4.0 (non-residential buildings)
- Air/water heat pumps: 3.5
- Gas-powered heat pumps: 1.25 (residential buildings), 1.3 (non-residential buildings)
- optimization: Hydraulic balancing and adjustment of the heating curve are necessary.
- Special regulations for geothermal probe drilling: Insurance against damage and certification of the drilling company in accordance with DVGW are required.
Additional requirements for new buildings
- Higher efficiency values: Electric heat pumps must have an annual efficiency of at least 4.5, and gas-powered heat pumps must have an annual efficiency of 1.5.
- System optimization: Further measures are required, such as the use of special technologies to minimize power consumption, particularly at low temperatures.
- Proof of quality: A contractually agreed check of the heat pump after one year of operation is necessary.
- Heating technology: The use of surface heating systems, such as floor heating systems, is mandatory.
How do I apply for funding?
The request for the KfW subsidy No. 458 must before starting work be asked. First, hire an energy consultant or specialist company to prepare the “Application Confirmation” (BzA). You then conclude a contract with a suspensive condition so that it only becomes valid if funding is approved. Then submit your application with the BZA ID online to the KfW customer portal. After the commitment, you can carry out the work, which must be completed within 36 months. Finally, submit all supporting documents so that you receive the subsidy.
The application for KfW Supplementary Loan No. 358 and 359 is carried out by a financing partner, such as your house bank, within twelve months of receipt of the grant commitment.
How much can I save by conveying the heat pump?
With heat pump funding, you can save up to 21,000€. In the following, we will show you the possible savings using an example — for this, we assume the retrofitting of an air heat pump in a single-family house, which costs 15,000 euros including installation.
